Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a senior electrical engineer to lead commissioning and turnover for mission-critical data center electrical systems. The role combines field leadership with engineering review, technical troubleshooting, and coordination across project stakeholders.

Project Details

This position supports large-scale data center projects through electrical validation, energization readiness, integrated systems testing, and operational turnover. Work is based at construction sites or the Lenexa, Kansas office, with travel to project locations required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical commissioning from pre-functional testing through integrated systems testing and turnover.
  • Direct factory witness testing, site acceptance testing, equipment startup, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Plan and execute energization activities, including sequencing, risk assessments, live-system coordination, and contingencies.
  • Verify N, N+1, and 2N redundancy through live testing, simulated faults, and load manipulation.
  • Prepare and approve commissioning plans, test scripts, validation records, failure-mode analyses, and final reports.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues involving utility service, distribution, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, relaying, and downstream equipment.
  • Coordinate with design, construction, commissioning, vendor, utility, authority, and client teams while mentoring junior personnel.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience with substantial site involvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership of electrical commissioning for data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Hands-on experience with redundancy validation, live power systems, energization, and fault-condition testing.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and commissioning documentation skills.
  • Large hyperscale or enterprise data center experience and a PE license or progress toward licensure are preferred.
