Assistant Field Engineer (Hourly)

Job Summary

Holder Construction is seeking a full-time Assistant Field Engineer to support operations on a construction project in Manassas, Virginia. The role offers structured career development within a nationally operating contractor.

Responsibilities

• Maintain vertical and horizontal project control.
• Support field engineering crews under the direction of a Field Engineer.
• Perform surveying, layout, and construction control activities using field equipment.
• Check layout against drawings, specifications, tolerances, and scheduled field priorities.
• Coordinate with crews, project staff, and trade partners to resolve layout issues.

Required Experience

• Prior experience leading construction layout crews.
• Ability to use total stations, levels, lasers, data collectors, and tablets.
• Understanding of structural, architectural, civil, and shop drawings.
• Basic AutoCAD and Bluebeam knowledge, layout-method familiarity, and general construction knowledge.
• Working math skills, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, unit conversions, and concrete quantity calculations.
• Reliable transportation, strong communication and computer skills, and availability for overtime and weekends.
• Ability to work safely outdoors, travel as needed, and meet the physical demands of construction-site work.
