Job Summary

McCarthy Building Companies is seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent / Forman to lead underground utility construction operations in Northern California. The role oversees field delivery for major utility work while coordinating crews, subcontractors, project partners, and municipalities.

Project Details

Projects involve underground water, sewer, storm drain, gas, electrical, and telecommunications utilities in the San Jose, Sacramento, and San Francisco markets.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily construction activities, crews, subcontractors, equipment, schedules, and project reporting.
• Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, utility providers, and municipal representatives.
• Maintain safety, quality, schedule, and budget performance, including trenching and shoring controls.
• Prepare change orders and project documentation while developing field personnel.

Required Experience

• At least 10 years of direct underground utilities construction experience.
• Demonstrated success delivering large-scale utility projects from mobilization through completion.
• Knowledge of underground construction methods, shoring, trench safety, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA requirements.
• Ability to interpret civil plans and specifications, work in varied weather, and lead physically demanding field operations.
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and experience in the Greater Sacramento or Bay Area.
• OSHA 30 and Trenching & Excavation training or certifications are relevant; bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

California salary range is $140,000-$160,000 depending on location, experience, qualifications, and other business factors. Additional bonus opportunities and employee benefits may affect total compensation.
