Commissioning Superintendent - Mission Critical

Job Summary

McCarthy Building Companies is seeking a site-based Commissioning Superintendent to lead commissioning coordination and field execution for mission critical construction projects. The role works across project management, engineering, construction, subcontractors, utilities, vendors, owners, and operations teams.

Project Details

Projects involve complex electrical and control systems, including inverters, trackers, transformers, meteorological stations, performance instrumentation, SCADA, and points of interconnection. The position requires extensive travel throughout the continental United States.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate commissioning schedules, field activities, testing agencies, OEM work, performance tests, and owner turnover.
• Guide project teams through three-week look-ahead planning, switching orders, commissioning logs, customer training, and test energy schedules.
• Review electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and studies such as load flow, reactive power, short circuit, relay coordination, and arc flash.
• Provide on-site technical support for equipment installation, testing, inspections, troubleshooting, and operational reviews.
• Maintain safety procedures while managing field resources, project status reporting, interconnection activities, warranty support, and performance obligations.
• Support estimating, change order pricing, subcontract scope development, and value engineering efforts.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering, or at least seven years of relevant experience.
• Understanding of mission critical construction and commissioning practices.
• NFPA 70E and OSHA 30 certification.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications, analyze technical information, and work within defined budgets.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, mathematical, and analytical skills.

Compensation and Benefits

Published base salary ranges are $124,100-$169,200 for California locations and $112,800-$141,000 for Colorado locations. Additional bonus opportunities, benefits, travel subsistence, and other incentives may apply under company guidelines.
