Damascus Sr Safety Specialist Underground Construction

Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a Senior Safety Specialist to support underground construction teams on complex projects throughout North America. This field-based role delivers safety leadership, training, auditing, incident response, and mentoring while reinforcing safe work practices across project teams.

Project Details

The Underground District delivers transportation and other industrial underground work, including tunneling, deep foundations, TBM operations, sequential excavation, drill and blast, shaft excavation, concrete, tunnel rehabilitation, and trenchless construction. Assignments may occur across varied climates, locations, and operating conditions.

Responsibilities

• Implement district and site-specific safety programs and communicate requirements to staff and craft personnel.
• Conduct orientations, training sessions, safety tours, workplace audits, safeguard assessments, and incident response activities.
• Coach supervisors and craft workers on job hazard analyses, hazard controls, and safe work planning.
• Identify unsafe conditions, intervene proactively, and stop work when necessary to protect employees.
• Support safety recognition activities and participate in Craft Voice in Safety meetings.
• Review work hazards, provide guidance to frontline supervisors, and mentor developing safety professionals.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's or associate degree in safety, occupational health, construction, EHS, or a related discipline is preferred.
• At least 10 years of construction-project safety experience, including 5 years as a construction EHS professional or representative.
• Completion of at least three approved safety or environmental training courses, including options such as BEDC EHS Standards, OSHA construction training, HAZWOPER, confined space, spill prevention, or lockout/tagout.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 construction training completed within the past five years.
• Experience with hazard identification, evaluations and controls, safety training, safe work plans, record keeping, and injury management.
• Ability to work underground, access all areas of active construction sites, and work around large moving equipment.
• Strong independent judgment, communication skills, attendance, and willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, nights, and weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $100,000-$130,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement plans with matching, and paid time off.
