Job Summary

Barton Malow is hiring an Energy Marshal to serve as the single point of responsibility for all equipment energizations on a mission-critical data center construction project in Philadelphia. The Energy Marshal holds sole authority over energization approvals, LOTO program compliance, and personnel safety during commissioning activities.

Large-scale mission-critical construction project (data center) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The role operates across both the construction zone and coordinates with the owner's operations team in the Operational Zone.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the sole approving authority for all energization and de-energization activities within the construction zone.
  • Lead pre-energization meetings at least five days in advance of major equipment events.
  • Assign and train Deputy Energy Marshals (DEMs) to monitor concurrent work activities.
  • Own and oversee the project's Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) program end to end.
  • Verify Qualified Worker status for all personnel performing work on energized or locked-out equipment per NFPA 70E and OSHA standards.
  • Review single-line electrical drawings and ensure all LOTO personnel understand the systems involved.
  • Oversee Foreign Object and Debris (FOD) inspections prior to entry into energized equipment.
  • Manage tamper tag installation and replacement from pre-energization through the PFHO milestone.
  • Verify removal of temporary protective grounding and correct switch and breaker positions per the energization plan.
  • Coordinate with the owner's operations team on all electrical MCM work within the Operational Zone related to Barton Malow scope.
  • Establish and maintain safety barriers restricting access during energization and commissioning activities.

Required Experience

  • Completed NFPA 70E training on Electrical Safety Related Work Practices (required).
  • Strong working knowledge of LOTO procedures, pre-energization processes, and electrical safety standards.
  • Experience reading and interpreting single-line electrical drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety-critical coordination across multiple trade partners and stakeholders.
  • Prior experience on large-scale construction projects, data centers, or industrial facilities preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage concurrent work activities and competing priorities.
