Equipment Superintendent

Job Summary

Granite is seeking an Equipment Superintendent to oversee equipment readiness, maintenance, and fleet operations for an assigned facility, project, or region.

Project Details

The role supports heavy civil construction operations, including grading, excavation, paving, concrete, asphalt, and structures.

Responsibilities

• Oversee equipment diagnostics, preventive maintenance, repairs, and reinvestment decisions to keep assets safe and available.
• Supervise shop and field technicians, including work assignments, coaching, development, and performance management.
• Maintain fleet and service records, coordinate equipment needs with operations and safety teams, and assess damaged equipment.
• Review purchase and replacement requests, compare repair options, and coordinate equipment transportation and compliance documentation.
• Support safety initiatives, meetings, inspections, and incident reviews.

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical training and some college coursework preferred.
• At least five years managing a significant fleet of heavy civil construction equipment and heavy highway trucks, including personnel supervision and repair oversight in shop and field settings.
• Advanced knowledge of heavy civil equipment and diagnostics, including electrical, hydraulic, welding, and fabrication systems.
• Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and MSHA regulations and inspection requirements.
• Proficiency with office applications, OEM diagnostic software, telematics, and basic financial tools.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive; ability to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and work around large equipment.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range is $111,123-$166,683, with pay depending on relevant experience, skills, location, and education. Benefits include paid holidays and sick leave, medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending plans, wellness programs, and a 401(k) match of 100% on the first 6% of eligible compensation deferred by salaried employees, with immediate vesting. Eligible employees and dependents may qualify for a medical plan with premiums fully paid by Granite.
