Job Summary

Kiewit is hiring an entry-level Field Engineer for its Southwest District to support heavy civil construction, field operations, office engineering, and estimating activities. The position is based in Phoenix, with assignments determined by project needs.

Project Details

The district delivers transportation and water infrastructure nationwide, including mass grading, drainage, concrete pavement, utilities, rail, and other self-performed heavy civil work. Projects may be located in major cities or smaller communities across the country.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret plans and specifications, calculate installed quantities, and support work plans, surveying, layout, and as-built documentation.
  • Prepare job hazard analyses and participate in safety reviews, toolbox meetings, training, and site coordination.
  • Schedule materials, coordinate work groups, support field crews, and supervise field and subcontractor operations.
  • Maintain project records, daily reports, RFIs, correspondence, cost data, change orders, and related documentation.
  • Perform material takeoffs, engineering calculations, drafting, purchasing support, and subcontract administration.
  • Assist with bid reviews, production and cost analysis, risk assessments, and estimating takeoffs.

Required Experience

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Ability to work throughout the heavy civil construction industry and access all areas of active jobsites in varying climates.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety, ethics, quality, schedule, cost control, teamwork, and independent execution.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Previous internship experience preferred; employment sponsorship is not available.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $82,000-$90,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off.
