Job Summary

JE Dunn Construction is hiring a Prefabrication Foreman 1 to lead a union carpentry fabrication crew on first shift at its Kansas City prefab shop. The role focuses on offsite fabrication of wood and steel components that are shipped and installed on project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and monitor a fabrication crew, establishing crew sizes aligned with production goals.
  • Coordinate preplanning for prefab production including schedule, materials, manpower, and meetings.
  • Track and report units and labor hours; submit timecards and document crew activities.
  • Read and interpret plans, shop drawings, and coordination drawings to maintain quality standards.
  • Create and implement safety plans; conduct toolbox talks and enforce safety compliance.
  • Control costs through task-specific production reports and analysis of materials and equipment (MOC).
  • Coordinate delivery of supplies and manage usage of internal and external shop resources.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and mentorship to team members.

Required Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, manufacturing, or a fabrication shop environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; apprentice or vocational/trade training preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers or iPad for daily task completion.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing processes, layout skills, and crane flagging and rigging.
  • Ability to identify common fabrication materials and shop equipment and apply productivity optimization.
