Project Engineer Detroit, MI

Job Summary

Barton Malow is seeking a Project Engineer in Detroit to support field leadership on commercial construction projects, handling cost control, scheduling, submittals, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with day-to-day cost control, schedule management, and document coordination.
• Manage submittals, RFIs, change requests, and associated logs to ensure timely resolution.
• Support project buyout, subcontract administration, and procurement activities.
• Help prepare and maintain project schedules, including short-interval and look-ahead planning.
• Monitor project costs, assist with forecasting, quantity tracking, and cost reporting.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and design professionals to resolve field issues.
• Participate in project meetings and prepare agendas, minutes, and follow-up documentation.
• Support quality control processes, safety planning, and compliance tracking.
• Utilize platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, and scheduling software to support project execution.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5+ years of commercial construction experience in a Project Engineer or similar role.
• Strong understanding of construction means and methods, drawing interpretation, and project controls.
• Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and scheduling software.
• Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
