Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a Project Engineer to support major heavy civil transportation work in Santa Clara, California. This mid-level field engineering role will contribute to project controls, scheduling, cost tracking, quality, and contract administration on a large public infrastructure program.

Project Details

The project is a $3 billion underground transportation program featuring three stations, tunnel portals, mid-tunnel facilities, and one of the world's largest tunnel boring machines. The work also includes secant or slurry wall systems for ground stability, adjacent structure support, and groundwater control. Substantial completion is estimated for February 2029.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents while identifying field issues and potential cost savings.
  • Support the master schedule, short-term look-ahead planning, schedule updates, and time impact analyses using Primavera.
  • Evaluate drawing revisions and changed conditions, quantify impacts, and assist with change order tracking and forecasting.
  • Audit quantities and progress, prepare monthly cost and schedule reports, and communicate trends and projections.
  • Assist project managers with procedures and follow project quality assurance and quality control requirements.
  • Travel to jobsites and work overtime or weekends when project demands require it.

Required Experience

  • At least 5 years of project controls or project engineering experience.
  • Experience with monthly schedule updates and time impact analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Primavera; SAP experience is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze project data, prepare management-level reports, and identify discrepancies in plans and specifications.
  • Strong communication, organization, initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safe, ethical, dependable, and deadline-focused work.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary is $100,000-$130,000, with a possible cost-of-living adjustment for employees in select Northern California locations. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement plans with matching, and paid time off.
