Project Manager - Baggage Handling - Aviation Construction (Traveling)

Job Summary

The Weitz Company is seeking a traveling Project Manager for its Aviation Business Unit. This role leads aviation construction projects with a focus on baggage handling systems and requires travel as project assignments change.

Project Details

The position supports aviation construction and baggage handling system projects for a national general contractor, design-builder, and construction manager.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain project schedules, address long-lead items, and manage changes.
• Negotiate and administer change orders, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
• Prepare project status reports, owner billings, and financial risk assessments.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and manage the buyout process.
• Coordinate safety planning, preconstruction, constructability reviews, and contract compliance.
• Lead, develop, assign, and mentor project staff.

Required Experience

• At least five years of construction project management experience.
• Aviation construction experience is required; baggage handling systems experience is strongly preferred.
• Industry-related college degree required, with equivalent education and experience considered.
• Experience with project management or scheduling software such as JDE, Procore, Bluebeam, or Asta, plus Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, client relations, decision-making, and construction knowledge.
