Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Manager to support field safety execution on a major heavy civil infrastructure project near Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The role reports to the Project Safety Manager and helps maintain a site-specific safety program aligned with company, client, contract, and regulatory requirements.

Project Details

The position supports a large transportation infrastructure project in the Portsmouth area within Kiewit's Eastern District, which delivers bridge, transit, tunnel, foundation, and water/wastewater work across the Northeast.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop, communicate, and maintain the site-specific safety plan for employees, subcontractors, and craft teams.
  • Partner with field operations and craft personnel to promote safety ownership and address upcoming work and leading-indicator trends.
  • Use stop-work authority, conduct documented hazard inspections, review work plans, and support corrective actions.
  • Assist with incident investigations, first aid coordination, emergency medical relationships, and compliant project safety files.
  • Support safety training covering company procedures, OSHA/MSHA requirements, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, and client standards.

Required Experience

  • At least five years of continuous construction safety experience, or a nationally accredited safety, occupational health, or related certification plus four years of experience.
  • Heavy civil infrastructure construction experience.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • A degree in occupational health and safety, environmental safety, construction, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and OSHA construction safety requirements, along with Microsoft Word and Excel experience.
  • Strong communication, organization, time management, attention to detail, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to access all areas of a construction site and work overtime or weekends when required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $130,000-$146,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off.
