Job Summary
Kiewit is seeking a senior mechanical engineer and HVAC project lead to guide complex building and industrial facility projects from client engagement through construction completion. The role combines technical design, multidisciplinary project leadership, client coordination, and team development.
Project Details
Projects support federal, healthcare, mission critical, aviation, commercial, education, transportation, nuclear, and other high-reliability facilities. Work may involve EPC and design-build delivery, central utility plants, campus distribution, critical environments, laboratories, and advanced building systems. The position may be based in Lenexa or Lone Tree, or in the Dallas, Fort Worth, or Houston areas.
Responsibilities
- Lead HVAC design for complex facilities from concept through commissioning.
- Prepare design bases, load calculations, energy analyses, construction documents, and technical reviews.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk controls.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and facilitate owner and stakeholder meetings.
- Mentor engineers and designers while advancing engineering standards and best practices.
- Build client relationships and contribute to proposals, interviews, and business development.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
- At least 12 years of building mechanical design experience; 15 or more years with EPC experience is considered for senior roles.
- Experience leading projects and teams with responsibility for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
- Strong HVAC knowledge, including chilled water, hydronic heating, steam, gas piping, dehumidification, utility plants, medical gas, laboratory systems, and building automation.
- Proficiency with HVAC load modeling, psychrometrics, duct and pipe sizing, design drawings, specifications, and applicable ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, and FGI standards.
- Experience with Trane TRACE 700 or Carrier HAP and Microsoft Office.
- PE licensure is preferred and required for certain senior or lead-level opportunities.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary is $150,000-$185,000. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off. Relocation assistance is available to the Lenexa/Kansas City area.
