Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a Senior Safety Specialist to support transportation and heavy civil projects in Honolulu. The role reports to the project Safety Manager and helps implement site-specific safety requirements in the field.

Project Details

The Southern California District delivers heavy civil, transportation, and water resource work throughout Southern California, the West Coast, and Hawaii. This position supports projects in Honolulu and may require relocation and travel.

Responsibilities

• Support, communicate, and audit the site-specific safety plan for employees, craft teams, operations, and subcontractors.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance and review work plans, work packages, hazard analyses, and activity plans before work begins.
• Perform daily hazard inspections, safety inspections, orientations, and documentation of corrective actions.
• Use stop-work authority when work does not comply with company policies, regulations, or approved plans.
• Maintain OSHA records, incident files, project safety documentation, and high-hazard activity tracking.
• Assist with first aid coordination, emergency medical relationships, incident investigations, and corrective solutions.
• Manage APP and AHA compliance while partnering with field personnel to strengthen safety ownership.

Required Experience

• At least five years of construction safety experience on comparable projects.
• Experience managing safety programs, performing hazard analyses, and implementing controls.
• Working knowledge of construction safety practices and current federal and OSHA requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, along with strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction training completed within the past five years.
• CHST certification required.
• Current 40-hour EM 385-1-1 Contract Safety Awareness training, or ability to obtain it within 60 days of award.
• At least 24 hours of formal safety training annually over the previous five years and eight hours of documented safety continuing education each year.
• Competent Person training in at least four areas, including excavation, scaffolding, fall protection, hazardous energy/LOTO, confined space, health hazard control, or PPE.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary is $115,000-$120,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off.
