Job Summary
Kiewit is seeking a mid-level Substation Electrical Engineer to support power delivery work in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The role offers the opportunity to develop transmission and distribution infrastructure designs for utility, industrial, and energy clients.
Project Details
Projects include electrical substations supporting transmission and distribution systems, with potential exposure to high-voltage facilities from 12kV through 500kV. Work may include design support for construction and commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Design substation layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding systems, conduit plans, wiring diagrams, and electrical calculations.
- Prepare and review one-line, three-line, protection and control, and other engineering deliverables.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, transmission line, construction, and protection and control teams.
- Support equipment specifications, vendor drawing reviews, client discussions, project planning, estimates, construction, and commissioning.
- Apply applicable utility requirements, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and other industry codes and standards.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- At least three years of electrical substation engineering experience supporting transmission and distribution projects.
- Knowledge of substation layout and design practices, utility standards, and applicable electrical codes.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar engineering design software.
- Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Must reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth area or be willing to relocate before starting.
- EIT certification, EPC or utility experience, high-voltage substation exposure, and construction or commissioning experience are preferred.
