Substation Engineer Lead Kiewit Power Delivery Engineering

Job Summary

Kiewit Power Delivery Engineering is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to provide technical leadership for high-voltage substation design across utility, EPC, transmission, and distribution projects. The position may be based in Portland, Oregon, or Salt Lake City, Utah.

Project Details

The engineering team supports greenfield and brownfield substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, from conceptual design through detailed engineering, construction, testing, and commissioning support.

Responsibilities

• Lead physical and protection and control design for high-voltage substations.
• Direct development of diagrams, layouts, equipment specifications, bills of material, grounding studies, and cable and raceway plans.
• Coordinate civil, structural, transmission, protection, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
• Review deliverables for technical accuracy, quality, compliance, and constructability.
• Support engineering schedules, staffing, resource planning, and risk mitigation.
• Coach junior engineers and designers while providing technical guidance to project teams.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Eight to ten years of high-voltage substation design experience in a utility, EPC, or consulting environment.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and utility-specific standards.
• Prior engineering team leadership or technical lead experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, CDEGS, or comparable substation design software.
• Strong communication, coordination, attendance, safety, and deadline-management skills.
