Job Summary

Kiewit Power Delivery is seeking a mid-level structural engineer to design and support high-voltage substation facilities from 12 kV through 500 kV. The position may be based in Portland, Oregon, or Salt Lake City, Utah, and supports both new and existing substations.

Project Details

Projects include utility substation steelwork, equipment supports, bus structures, control buildings, foundations, and upgrades across transmission and distribution infrastructure. Work spans greenfield construction and brownfield modifications.

Responsibilities

  • Complete structural analysis and design for steel members, foundations, equipment supports, and substation buildings.
  • Prepare calculations addressing gravity, wind, seismic, foundation, and applicable code requirements.
  • Develop structural plans, details, specifications, and material documentation.
  • Review supplier and contractor submittals and coordinate structural work with civil, electrical, and physical design disciplines.
  • Provide construction support through RFI responses, field reviews, and installation guidance.
  • Assess existing substation structures for capacity, condition, and upgrade needs.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • Five to seven years of structural engineering experience, preferably with substations or utility infrastructure.
  • Experience with structural analysis tools such as STAAD, RISA, or SAP2000 and CAD platforms including AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of structural load combinations, utility standards, and ASCE, AISC, ACI, and NESC requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, produce accurate technical documents, and collaborate across disciplines.

Compensation and Benefits
