Traveling Superintendent - Transportation/Infrastructure

Job Summary

Kiewit is hiring a Traveling Superintendent to lead field operations for transportation and heavy civil construction. The role is based in Southern California with a temporary-duty assignment in Abilene, Texas.

Project Details

The Southern California District delivers infrastructure work including transportation, roadways, earthmoving, water and wastewater, and power projects. This assignment supports civil construction operations in Abilene while offering access to projects across the United States.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate civil construction activities, craft labor, materials, and equipment.
• Lead, supervise, and mentor field crews and developing staff.
• Maintain safety, quality, schedule, cost, and resource controls throughout project execution.
• Manage subcontractor and field contract administration, documentation, change orders, and job-cost updates.
• Resolve field issues and maintain effective communication with clients and project stakeholders.
• Work overtime and weekends when project requirements demand.

Required Experience

• At least three years of construction experience, including three years in a superintendent or comparable leadership capacity.
• Engineering, construction management, or related degree preferred.
• Strong knowledge of construction disciplines, safety requirements, scheduling, cost control, drawings, contract administration, and applicable union or jurisdictional matters.
• Leadership, negotiation, planning, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are required.
• Must be able to access all areas of an active construction site and work safely in varied field conditions.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $115,000-$130,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off. Relocation assistance or per diem and paid trips home may be available for assignments.
