Assistant Safety Manager

Job Summary

McCarthy Building Companies is seeking an Assistant Safety Manager in Austin to administer project safety efforts, promote proactive hazard prevention, and help teams maintain a safe construction environment.

Project Details

The role supports large healthcare, commercial, industrial, mission critical, and similar construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate safety programs, orientations, documentation, and toolbox meetings for employees and subcontractors.
• Complete documented safety and health inspections at least twice monthly and track related compliance reporting.
• Coordinate protective equipment, first aid supplies, posted safety information, and other required site materials.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near misses, and accidents; document corrective actions and maintain OSHA-related logs.
• Identify construction hazards and enforce company safety policies.
• Submit safety meetings, pre-plans, inspections, correspondence, directives, and citations to the Division Safety Director.

Required Experience

• At least three years managing safety activities on large construction projects.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• OSHA 500 certification preferred.
• Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
• Experience administering safety orientations, substance abuse programs, incident investigations, and near-miss reporting.
• Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across management, owners, trades, and subcontractors.
