Job Summary

Overland Contracting, a Black & Veatch company, is seeking an Equipment Leadman to operate and oversee heavy construction equipment while supporting safe, productive field operations.

Project Details

The position supports critical infrastructure and industrial work across power, water, grid, and related construction markets in Belmont, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as loaders, dozers, excavators, graders, scrapers, forklifts, boring machines, and side booms to excavate, move, and grade materials.
  • Coordinate equipment movements with crew members, follow load charts, calculate slopes and grades, and locate underground utilities before work begins.
  • Complete inspections, maintenance logs, fueling checks, and routine cleaning, greasing, and oiling.
  • Follow trenching, excavation, equipment red-tag, and stop-work procedures while identifying and mitigating jobsite hazards.
  • Provide field guidance to helpers and laborers, inspect assigned work, and maintain required equipment and construction records.
  • Read operating manuals, plans, and specifications and deliver work that meets contract and industry requirements.

Required Experience

  • Multiple years of heavy equipment operating experience and strong knowledge of operating and rigging practices.
  • Knowledge of equipment limitations, safe operating procedures, load capacities, and construction-site hazards.
  • OCI equipment qualification card for each unit operated.
  • Medical Examiner's Certificate on file before operating equipment; a commercial driver's license is required when driving equipment on public roads.
  • NCCER Heavy Equipment Operations, Highway / Heavy Construction, Rigger, Site Layout, and Fundamentals of Crew Leadership credentials are listed qualifications.
  • Must be at least 18 and able to complete applicable background, drug-screen, and motor-vehicle-record checks.
