BESS Services Project Manager

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a BESS Services Project Manager to oversee development, design engineering, and owner's engineering services for Battery Energy Storage System projects. This role manages project performance, financials, schedule, quality, safety, and client satisfaction from initiation through closeout.

Project Details

Projects span stand-alone BESS facilities, hybrid or co-located BESS with solar, wind, or thermal assets, and BESS for data center development. Anticipated project revenues range from $50,000 to $10M per engagement.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of contracted BESS project scope, including permitting support, cost estimating, equipment procurement, RFP preparation, bid evaluation, design review, construction support, commissioning, and closeout.
• Lead proposal development in coordination with Proposal and Engineering Managers, including scope write-ups and budget estimation.
• Act as a seller-doer to develop new and repeat business with targeted clients.
• Build and maintain relationships with key energy storage technology leaders and OEMs.
• Represent Black & Veatch as an industry-facing technical expert through conferences, presentations, papers, and webinars.
• Stay current on BESS technology trends through industry engagement, national labs, and OEM relationships.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience required.
• Typically 5+ years of project management experience.
• Prior experience with BESS for Front of the Meter (FTM) and Behind the Meter (BTM) applications strongly preferred.
• Experience with hybrid storage configurations is a plus.
• Professional Engineering (PE) License is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

$126,236–$253,617/year, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
