Civil Engineer - Water

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Civil Engineer to support large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Virginia Beach. The role combines technical design, project coordination, client support, and mentorship within an employee-owned engineering organization.

Project Details

Projects focus on water and wastewater infrastructure, including conveyance systems, infrastructure improvements, and pump or lift stations, progressing from planning and design through construction and startup.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs, calculations, specifications, technical reports, studies, and contract documents.
• Support project schedules, budgets, quality requirements, cost estimates, and contract administration.
• Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and technical approaches to support business development.
• Evaluate equipment and materials and develop practical solutions for complex water projects.
• Review work produced by early-career engineers and provide technical leadership and mentorship.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program.
• At least five years of related professional experience.
• Strong understanding of water and wastewater design, including conveyance and pump or lift stations.
• Professional Engineer registration is preferred, or candidates should be actively pursuing licensure.
• Ability to lead portions of complex projects and coordinate engineering deliverables.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual compensation range is $109,460-$182,800. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability coverage, wellness resources, paid time off, a company-matched 401(k), tuition reimbursement, and potential performance-based bonus eligibility. Black & Veatch is 100% employee-owned through an ESOP. Hybrid or flexible work options may be available after the first 90 days at management discretion.
