Construction Manager - Transmission Line - Iowa

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Construction Manager to coordinate field construction activities for transmission line projects in Iowa. The role oversees schedule, safety, quality, cost, staffing, equipment, and site execution in partnership with project leadership.

Project Details

The position supports transmission line construction and related substation work, including field planning, constructability, subcontractor coordination, project controls, equipment sourcing, and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction teams with the staffing, methods, procedures, tools, and equipment needed for transmission work.
• Coordinate safety, quality, schedule, productivity, cost, materials, manpower, and installed quantities.
• Support proposals, estimating, design reviews, subcontract development, risk reviews, and commercial recovery.
• Prepare job hazard analyses, address field issues, track potential back charges, and maintain client and subcontractor relationships.
• Review time records, progress documentation, and payment requests while developing corrective actions when targets are at risk.

Required Experience

• Transmission construction experience and at least five years of construction supervision.
• Preferred background includes a construction or engineering degree, substation experience, and transmission line craft experience at lineman level or above.
• Typically requires three or more years at Construction Manager level or above, with eight years of transmission experience with a degree or 18 years without one.
• Knowledge of project controls, budgets, risk management, construction management systems, planning, communication, leadership, and problem solving.
• OSHA training is required; bilingual Spanish skills are preferred.
• Ability to complete applicable background, drug-screen, and motor-vehicle-record checks.
