Electrical Project Engineer EHV Substation (765kV)

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to provide technical leadership and project coordination for extra-high-voltage substation engineering work, including projects up to 765kV.

Project Details

The role supports utility substation engineering, procurement, and construction projects, with work spanning physical design and protection and controls for high-voltage facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead or coordinate substation engineering activities, budgets, schedules, quality reviews, and project deliverables.
• Develop protection and controls designs, including relay systems, schematics, wiring, and one-line diagrams.
• Prepare physical design packages covering layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, and auxiliary power.
• Develop equipment specifications and bills of materials for procurement and construction.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and support proposals, pursuit efforts, and field or construction coordination.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• At least 5 years of related professional experience.
• Experience with EHV substation design at 500kV or higher in physical design and/or protection and controls.
• Project lead, technical specialist, QA/QC, and utility client coordination experience preferred.
• Professional Engineer license preferred, along with proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office.

Compensation and Benefits

Illinois compensation is $120,406-$201,080 per year. Relocation may be available, and hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after 90 days at management discretion.
