Job Summary

Black & Veatch is hiring an Electrical Project Engineer to serve as a technical lead on FACTS, STATCOM, and HVDC substation design projects spanning distribution through transmission voltage classes. The role sits within B&V's Technology, Commercial & Industrial team, ranked #4 in Power by Engineering News-Record (2025).

Project Details

Work covers high-voltage substation design — physical layout, protection & controls, and power systems — for utility-scale projects including HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM systems, renewables integration, data center interconnection, and BESS integration. Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

  • Lead substation design engineering for FACTS projects across distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission voltage classes.
  • Apply IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC, NERC, and ISO/RTO standards to define requirements and review physical, P&C, and power system deliverables.
  • Coordinate with owners, OEMs, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical and project management issues.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, manage deliverables, and oversee budget and schedule for assigned projects.
  • Delegate tasks to junior engineers and review their work; may serve as responsible charge for a project.
  • Mentor lower-level professionals and support knowledge management within the group.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years of related engineering experience.
  • High-voltage substation design experience (physical and/or protection & controls) preferred.
  • Experience as a project technical lead overseeing utility substation clients preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office preferred.
