Job Summary

Kiewit Foundations Co. is hiring an entry-level Field Engineer to support hands-on construction and office operations on complex underground and foundation projects. The role is based in Birmingham and offers national career mobility across the company’s transportation and heavy civil work.

Project Details

The Foundations team delivers geotechnical, underground, tunneling, and foundation projects across the United States and Canada, including transportation, water and wastewater, power, mining, and telecommunications work.

Responsibilities

• Support field crews with drawing interpretation, quantity tracking, surveying, work plans, safety documentation, and jobsite coordination.
• Help plan work, schedule materials, supervise field and subcontractor operations, and participate in safety meetings and training.
• Prepare takeoffs, calculations, project records, RFIs, cost data, change orders, submittals, and as-built information.
• Assist with purchasing, subcontract administration, maintenance scheduling, and project correspondence.
• Support estimating through plan reviews, production and cost analysis, risk identification, and bid takeoffs.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, mining, mechanical, geotechnical engineering, construction management, or a related construction field.
• Construction or mining experience is preferred, along with a strong interest in underground construction.
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications, think critically, plan ahead, and work independently or with a team.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, dependable attendance, and willingness to work overtime or weekends when required.
• Must be willing to travel and relocate as assignments change among jobsites, district offices, and departments.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $82,000-$88,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement plans with matching, and paid time off.
