Federal Site Safety Health Officer CONUS

Job Summary

Garney Construction is seeking a Federal Site Safety Health Officer to lead safety and accident-prevention activities for an assigned federal construction project in the continental United States.

Responsibilities

• Manage project safety compliance, accident-prevention planning, and work procedures for employees, subcontractors, government personnel, and the public.
• Prepare project safety plans aligned with federal specifications, agency requirements, and company policy.
• Assess work areas, deliver safety training, and coordinate corrective actions with project safety personnel.
• Conduct and document inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and investigations of near misses, incidents, and accidents.
• Lead safety initiatives and make independent judgments regarding compliance and risk controls.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, or a related field, or at least five years of construction safety experience.
• OSHA 30 construction training completed within the past three years, or a current OSHA 500 or OSHA 502 credential.
• Current 40-hour Construction Hazard Awareness Course under EM385-1-1 and working knowledge of OSHA, EM385-1-1, and applicable government safety requirements.
• At least 24 hours of formal safety training annually for the past five years, including relevant training in fall protection, excavation, first aid, confined space, electrical hazards, or hazardous materials.
• Competent-person-level knowledge of fall protection standards, along with strong communication, teaching, mentoring, and leadership skills.
• Availability for a high-production schedule exceeding 50 hours per week, including nights and weekends.
