Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking an entry-level Field Engineer to support field operations, office engineering, estimating, and construction management activities within its Northern California District.

Project Details

The district delivers heavy civil infrastructure across transportation, water resources, wastewater, underground utilities, tunneling, reservoirs, bridges, and related work throughout California and the West Coast. The position is headquartered in Fairfield, with project assignments determined according to business needs and employee development goals.

Responsibilities

  • Support drawing interpretation, quantity tracking, surveying, layout, as-built documentation, work plans, and job hazard analyses.
  • Coordinate materials, schedules, work groups, subcontractors, and field operations.
  • Maintain project records, daily reports, RFIs, photographs, cost data, correspondence, and change-order information.
  • Assist with material takeoffs, engineering calculations, technical drafting, submittals, purchase orders, subcontracts, and project cost reviews.
  • Participate in safety meetings, jobsite reviews, training, and field supervision.
  • Review bid documents, historical production and cost data, project risks, and estimating takeoffs.

Required Experience

  • Degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Infrastructure or heavy civil construction experience is preferred.
  • Ability to travel, relocate, and access all areas of active construction sites in varied climates and environments.
  • Strong communication, organization, initiative, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safety, ethics, teamwork, reliable attendance, and meeting deadlines.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work; overtime and weekend work may be required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation is $87,000-$96,000 per year. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement plans with matching, and paid time off.
