Job Summary
Kiewit is seeking an entry-level Field Engineer to support heavy civil and transportation construction operations from the Southern California District. The role combines field coordination, office engineering, estimating support, and subcontractor oversight.
Project Details
Projects may include transportation, heavy civil, water resources, wastewater treatment, tunneling, reservoirs, bridges, roadways, and underground utilities. The position is headquartered in Costa Mesa, but assignments are determined by project needs and may occur nationwide.
Responsibilities
- Interpret plans and specifications, calculate quantities, support surveying and layout, and compile as-built information.
- Prepare work plans, job hazard analyses, material orders, delivery schedules, and project records.
- Coordinate jobsite work groups, support field operations, and supervise subcontractor activities.
- Maintain daily reports, photographs, RFIs, cost data, change orders, and other project correspondence.
- Perform material takeoffs, engineering calculations, drafting, purchasing support, and estimating analysis.
- Participate in safety reviews, toolbox meetings, training, and other jobsite safety activities.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a construction-related engineering field, such as civil, mechanical, construction management, mining, or geotechnical engineering.
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to access all areas of a construction site and work in varied climates and environments.
- Strong communication, organization, time management, initiative, ethics, and safety awareness.
- Previous internship experience is preferred.
- Must be able to work overtime, weekends, rotating schedules, or shift work when project conditions require.
Compensation and Benefits
Base compensation is $85,000-$95,000 annually, subject to education, experience, skills, and location. Full-time employees receive medical, dental, vision, wellness, employee assistance, life and disability insurance, retirement matching, and paid time off.
