Foreman (Gas)

Job Summary

Lead a field crew completing scheduled underground gas work in the Ames area, with responsibility for safe, efficient, and on-budget execution.

Project Details

The role supports natural gas distribution operations and underground construction, including work on hard and soft surfaces.

Responsibilities

• Direct crew members, coordinate daily work, and plan upcoming labor, equipment, and tool needs.
• Track progress, quality, schedules, employee time, materials, production, and equipment use; submit required reports and job records.
• Conduct weekly safety meetings, apply company safety procedures, and maintain secure, orderly work areas.
• Inspect work, maintain equipment, train crew members, and communicate with supervisors, customers, inspectors, and property owners.
• Address customer concerns and workforce issues, and support emergency after-hours or weekend on-call needs when required.

Required Experience

• At least five years of underground experience and three years in a leadership role.
• High school diploma or equivalent; construction or supervision training is helpful.
• Valid driver's license for the state where the work is performed.
• Strong underground construction knowledge, communication, planning, problem-solving, and crew leadership skills.
• English required; Spanish is a plus. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and work outdoors in variable conditions.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay starts at $38 per hour, depending on experience; compensation is based on current union agreements.
