Job Summary
Black & Veatch is hiring an Overhead Transmission Line Project Engineering Manager to lead multi-discipline engineering teams on high-voltage overhead transmission line projects for investor-owned utilities across the United States. This is a full-time, staff position based in Overland Park, Kansas, with hybrid flexibility available after 90 days.
Project Details
The role sits within B&V's Technology, Commercial & Industrial team, which delivers engineering, procurement, and construction services across substations, renewables integration, HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM, data center integration, and BESS integration. Projects range from design services engagements to full EPC programs at the mega-project scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-discipline teams of engineers and technicians to deliver complex overhead transmission line projects.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines simultaneously.
- Serve as responsible charge on projects and coordinate interdisciplinary activities.
- Interface directly with clients to identify key drivers, communicate solutions, and manage project changes.
- Support business development, proposals, and engineering estimates.
- Review and mentor lower-level engineering staff; responsible for hiring and pay administration of subordinates.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum 5 years of related engineering work experience.
- Experience managing EPC or design services overhead transmission line projects for investor-owned utilities preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of PLS-CADD, line routing, structural loading design, and foundation design.
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary coordination including procurement, permitting, real estate, and construction support.
- P.E. license highly preferred; professional registration or active pursuit required per division policy.
