Principal Engineer II Substation Commissioning

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Principal Engineer II to lead commissioning and startup activities for substation and power infrastructure projects in Greenwood Village. This staff role manages startup execution, resources, schedules, budgets, safety, quality, and client coordination.

Project Details

The position supports power, grid, and industrial construction work, including commissioning milestones, operational readiness, testing, turnover, and startup activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage construction completion turnover, startup, operations turnover, and final client handoff.
• Develop startup schedules, procedures, packages, budgets, and labor-hour controls.
• Coordinate commissioning engineers, operations supervisors, technicians, and LOTO/turnover coordinators.
• Plan major startup milestones and direct daily commissioning activities.
• Manage client communications, operational controls, spares, consumables, deliveries, and outstanding work.
• Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate assigned staff while supporting safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Required Experience

• At least 5 years of startup experience, including a prior assignment as a lead discipline engineer.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred.
• Knowledge of power plant technical principles, project management, resource management, and commissioning systems and tools.
• OSHA 10 Hour Training required.
• Ability to work in construction environments, including confined areas, elevated locations, uneven terrain, hazardous equipment, and varying weather conditions.
