Project Superintendent - Commercial

Job Summary

Weitz is seeking a Project Superintendent to lead commercial construction field operations for its Iowa team in Des Moines. The role oversees jobsite execution, safety, scheduling, coordination, and project performance.

Project Details

Lead complex commercial projects, including larger assignments after demonstrating success on smaller projects. Work closely with project management, subcontractors, owners, designers, engineers, and field staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct subcontractors and field forces as the primary jobsite leader.
• Establish and maintain the project safety program.
• Develop project schedules, two-week look-ahead plans, and computerized schedule updates.
• Coordinate subcontractor activities and support major subcontractor selection and buyout.
• Communicate with owners, designers, engineers, vendors, and suppliers.
• Maintain cost reports and support profitable project delivery.

Required Experience

• At least five years of commercial construction experience across the full project lifecycle.
• Experience with safety, preconstruction, staff development and retention, and customer interaction.
• Ability to interpret construction documents and apply construction methods and materials knowledge.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• High school diploma required; an industry-related college degree is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Apple devices, and construction software or the ability to learn company systems.
