Job Summary
Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. is seeking a registered Mechanical HVAC and Plumbing Engineer to lead and review building-system designs for U.S. Government clients. The role supports projects independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
Project Details
Federal work includes administration and office buildings, laboratories, server rooms, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, maintenance facilities, renovations, and additions. Projects may involve design-build, defense, classified, environmental, and other government programs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and review HVAC and plumbing drawings, specifications, calculations, controls documentation, and basis-of-design materials.
- Manage assigned scope, schedules, budgets, quality, execution plans, and team forecasts for small to mid-size projects.
- Coordinate with other disciplines, clients, contractors, and project teams while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and support construction-phase services and site observations.
- Review junior engineers' work, mentor staff, and present technical information to clients, contractors, and end users.
- Create energy models and life-cycle cost analyses using IESVE and BLCC, and produce 2D Revit drawings.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent engineering experience and at least five years of related work experience.
- Active engineering registration or licensure supporting engineer-of-record requirements.
- U.S. citizenship is required for assignment to government agency and department projects.
- Strong HVAC and plumbing design experience, including industrial, commercial, central plant, boiler, and chiller systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical codes, load calculations, sustainable design, Revit or Autodesk products, and effective written and verbal communication.
- LEED AP or other sustainability credential and CxA certification are preferred; security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
Compensation and Benefits
The listed annual compensation range for the applicable Virginia office locations is $137,916-$230,328. Hybrid or flexible work may be available after 90 days at management discretion.
