Substation Engineer - Kiewit Power Delivery Engineering

Job Summary

Kiewit Power Delivery is seeking a Protection and Control Engineer for its Columbus office to support the engineering of utility substation projects. The mid-level engineer will contribute to safe, reliable, and coordinated designs for greenfield and brownfield facilities from 12 kV through 500 kV.

Project Details

The work supports transmission and distribution infrastructure for electric utilities and EPC clients, including high-voltage substation systems and related power delivery facilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop one-line, three-line, AC, and DC diagrams covering protection, controls, metering, tripping, and auxiliary power.
• Prepare wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and interconnection drawings for relays, RTUs, communications equipment, and station devices.
• Complete CT/PT sizing, DC load, breaker duty, and protection coordination calculations.
• Support relay settings, logic diagrams, configuration files, RTU/SCADA point lists, and communications interfaces.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and physical electrical design teams to deliver constructible substation designs.
• Provide technical assistance through procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Five to seven years of substation protection and control design experience on utility or EPC projects.
• Experience with relay setting software such as SEL AcSELerator or GE Enervista and RTU/SCADA configuration tools.
• Knowledge of NERC, IEEE, and utility-specific protection standards.
• Strong ability to interpret detailed electrical drawings, communicate professionally, meet deadlines, and work safely.
• Regular attendance and availability for overtime, weekends, or varied work locations as project needs require.
