Traveling Project Manager (Automotive)

Job Summary

Barton Malow is seeking a traveling Project Manager to lead automotive manufacturing construction assignments throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee. This role carries overall responsibility for safe, timely, and financially successful project delivery while serving as the primary client contact.

Project Details

The position supports industrial and automotive manufacturing projects, including complex equipment installation and turnover work tied to production start dates. Assignments may change as regional projects begin and conclude; the role is not based in Southfield, Michigan.

Responsibilities

• Direct project teams and coordinate office, field, superintendent, owner, designer, and trade partner activities.
• Control budgets, forecasts, cost reporting, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, billings, and commercial risk.
• Develop and maintain schedules, procurement plans, logistics strategies, and Lean constraint-removal processes.
• Manage owner communications, meetings, RFIs, submittals, design changes, and change orders.
• Oversee quality planning, commissioning, punch lists, warranties, as-built records, and project turnover.
• Coach project engineers and assistant project managers while reinforcing company and site safety requirements.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Seven or more years of construction project management experience with full cost and schedule accountability.
• Industrial or manufacturing project experience; automotive experience is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of construction contracts, buyout, change management, cost forecasting, drawings, specifications, and equipment installation documents.
• Proficiency with construction management, scheduling, and Microsoft Office software.
• Clear communication with owners, designers, trade partners, and field teams.
• Willingness to travel and move between project sites in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee; OSHA 30 and other relevant certifications are preferred.
