Construction Manager - Power Plant - Washington

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Construction Manager to support the Site Manager on a brownfield coal-to-gas power plant conversion in Seattle. The role provides field leadership, contractor coordination, and construction assurance within an active operating facility.

Project Details

The project involves a power plant conversion executed through multiple owner-held contracts, with union and non-union contractors performing civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and controls work. The position supports outage, tie-in, commissioning, turnover, and startup activities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily field activities across multiple contractors, work fronts, and project stakeholders.
• Monitor contractor safety, quality, productivity, staffing, schedule performance, and progress reporting.
• Lead coordination and plan-of-the-day meetings while resolving field constraints, interface conflicts, and operational impacts.
• Review schedules, look-ahead plans, manpower forecasts, payment applications, change orders, and field change requests.
• Coordinate engineering responses, RFIs, design clarifications, non-conformance resolution, inspections, testing, system completion, and turnover.
• Prepare field reports, risk summaries, progress updates, and construction metrics for project leadership.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent construction experience.
• 10 or more years of industrial construction experience, including at least five years in construction supervision, construction management, superintendent, or field leadership roles.
• Experience with power generation, energy, heavy industrial, process plant, or major infrastructure projects in active operating or brownfield environments.
• Knowledge of contractor management, construction sequencing, contract administration, Primavera P6, progress measurement, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout, and industrial quality requirements.
• OSHA training.
• Experience with power plant retrofits, outage execution, commissioning, startup, and both union and non-union contractor organizations is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range is $145,000-$180,000 per year. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability coverage, wellness programs, paid time off, holidays, sick time, company-matched 401(k), tuition reimbursement, and employee stock ownership. A performance-based bonus may also be available.
