Data Center Detailed Design & MEP Execution Lead

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a senior design and MEP execution leader to direct detailed delivery for hyperscale, colocation, and other mission-critical data center programs. The role establishes execution strategies, leads multidisciplinary teams, and connects design development through construction administration.

Project Details

The portfolio includes data center campuses with critical power, cooling, plumbing, fire protection, controls, civil, structural, architectural, telecom, security, utility, and commissioning interfaces. Work may include modular systems, high-density computing, advanced cooling, high-availability electrical systems, and phased campus expansion.

Responsibilities

• Lead design delivery from basis of design and concept development through permitting, construction documents, procurement support, construction administration, commissioning support, and closeout.
• Define execution plans, workshare structures, schedules, deliverable registers, team interfaces, and decision processes.
• Direct technical integration and interdisciplinary design reviews across MEP, building systems, utilities, BIM/VDC, and construction stakeholders.
• Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, coordination, technical risk, constructability, procurement, permitting, and change-related issues.
• Build and mentor engineering, design, discipline, and BIM/VDC teams while developing repeatable standards, quality systems, and delivery practices.
• Serve as a senior technical interface for clients, project leadership, construction, procurement, commissioning, and operations teams.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, architecture, or a related field.
• At least 15 years of progressive engineering and design delivery experience, including substantial detailed data center experience.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary MEP teams through construction documents, permitting, procurement, construction administration, and commissioning.
• Knowledge of critical power, cooling, controls, fire protection, plumbing, BIM/VDC, constructability, and commissioning coordination.
• Professional Engineer or Architect registration.
• Experience with hyperscale or colocation standards, repeatable design platforms, regional delivery teams, external design partners, and Revit-based multidisciplinary delivery is preferred.
