Electrical Project Engineer Substation

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to provide technical leadership and project coordination for high-voltage substation engineering, procurement, and construction work in a hybrid professional environment.

Project Details

Assignments may include utility substation projects up to 765kV, with work spanning protection and controls, physical design, engineering deliverables, and EPC execution. The broader team supports substations, renewables integration, HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM, data center integration, and battery energy storage projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead or coordinate electrical design activities, budgets, schedules, quality requirements, and project deliverables.
• Develop protection and control documents, including relay designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line drawings.
• Prepare physical substation designs covering yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, and auxiliary power systems.
• Review design packages, equipment specifications, and bills of materials for procurement and construction.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor junior engineers, delegate work, support business development, and contribute to quality and continuous-improvement efforts.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• At least five years of related engineering experience.
• Experience with extra-high-voltage substation design at 500kV or above is preferred.
• Project lead or technical specialist experience with utility substation clients and projects is preferred.
• Professional Engineer license, QA/QC review experience, and proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office are preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The Massachusetts annual compensation range is $131,352-$219,360.
