Mid-Level Substation Engineer - Kiewit Power Engineering

Job Summary

Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a mid-level Substation Engineer to support design and EPC assignments within its power delivery practice. The role is based in Lenexa, Kansas, and works with project teams serving utility clients nationwide.

Project Details

Assignments cover substation, transmission, and distribution systems ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, including high-voltage power delivery infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical design packages, drawings, diagrams, layouts, details, and construction markups.
• Prepare specifications for substation equipment procurement, installation, and testing.
• Perform ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination, and electrical studies using engineering software.
• Coordinate technical activities with project leads, customers, and other stakeholders.
• Meet deadlines, communicate professionally, and follow applicable safety and work procedures.

Required Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• At least three years of engineering-related experience.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English.
• Reliable attendance and flexibility to work overtime or weekends when project needs require.
