Project Engineer 2 Self Perform

Job Summary

JE Dunn Construction is seeking a Project Engineer 2 with a self-perform focus to support field execution across multiple facets of construction in Kansas City. This is a hands-on role working alongside superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors to build core project management skills within a structured career path.

Responsibilities

• Support safety and quality plans, including toolbox talks and safety reviews, with a commitment to an injury-free jobsite.
• Assist with estimating, change management, quantity take-offs, and review of subcontractor proposals.
• Monitor crew size, self-perform hours, materials, quantities, and equipment on site.
• Prepare and distribute daily reports, weekly progress reports, production schedules, and equipment tracking logs.
• Pre-plan crew activities, complete look-ahead schedules, and report updates to the project superintendent.
• Track shop drawings, procurement logs, and material deliveries per project schedule and specifications.
• Support project administration in CMiC and other company platforms.
• Assist with project closeout including punch lists, as-built drawings, and O&M manuals.
• Participate in city inspections, QA/QC reviews, and project meetings.
• Identify and integrate self-perform opportunities and evaluate process improvements for cost control.
• Mentor and support less experienced project team members.

Required Experience

• 2+ years of construction experience.
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with construction technology and Lean practices.
• Knowledge of self-perform work, labor productivity, and construction means and methods.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills with trades and project stakeholders.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours and travel or relocate as project needs require.
