Job Summary

The Weitz Company is seeking a Project Engineer to support federal construction projects from planning and procurement through project closeout. The role assists the project team with documentation, coordination, schedule tracking, budget awareness, and issue resolution while reporting to the Project Manager.

Project Details

This position supports the company’s Federal business unit and may involve federal contract work, including NAVFAC or USACE projects.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain construction drawings, project documents, logs, submittals, RFIs, and subcontractor records.
  • Coordinate RFIs, submittal reviews, inspections, compliance audits, and non-conformance tracking.
  • Monitor material and equipment deliveries and support subcontract buyout and purchase order scopes.
  • Track subcontractor changes, obtain pricing, and prepare change orders within delegated authority.
  • Assist with project schedule management and participate in meetings, including preparation and distribution of minutes.
  • Support closeout by collecting punch list information, preparing as-built documentation, and assisting with warranty activities.

Required Experience

  • Industry-related college degree required.
  • At least two years of project engineering experience required; construction internship experience preferred.
  • Federal contracts experience preferred, with NAVFAC or USACE experience valued.
  • Strong communication, organization, time management, engineering, and construction management skills required.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; familiarity with JDE, Procore, Asta, Bluebeam, or similar project systems is helpful.
  • Primavera P6 experience is a plus.
