Project Engineer I

Job Summary

Mortenson is seeking a Project Engineer I to support field coordination, construction quality, documentation, and project administration. This full-time role requires presence at assigned Iowa project sites, generally within 90 miles of the Coralville office.

Responsibilities

• Interpret plans and specifications for subcontractors and craft personnel.
• Support quality planning, testing, inspections, three-phase inspection processes, and project closeout.
• Manage permits, recurring project expenses, material tracking, inspection records, concrete placement logs, and non-conformance reports.
• Prepare and distribute contract documents, RFIs, change orders, submittals, correspondence, and as-built updates.
• Coordinate subcontractor documentation, approvals, insurance verification, payment paperwork, and schedule-related requirements.
• Maintain project schedules, coordinate safety and compliance, resolve field issues, and mentor field engineers.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in construction, civil or architectural engineering, or construction management.
• At least two years of related construction experience.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and apply basic construction law and business practices.
• Strong teamwork, communication, initiative, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
• Current driver’s license and authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay is $84,100-$113,500 annually, with location-based adjustments in certain higher-cost markets and eligibility for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
