Project Engineer I

Job Summary

Mortenson is seeking a Project Engineer I to support field coordination, construction quality, documentation, and project controls on assigned Minnesota job sites. This is a full-time, site-based role with most assignments within 90 miles of Minneapolis.

Responsibilities

• Interpret plans and specifications for subcontractors and craft professionals.
• Support quality planning, testing, inspections, nonconformance tracking, and three-phase inspection processes.
• Manage permits, project records, contract documents, RFIs, change orders, submittals, and as-built updates.
• Coordinate submittal reviews, approvals, transmittals, scheduling, and communications with project participants.
• Maintain material, inspection, concrete placement, reporting, and closeout documentation.
• Coordinate subcontractor paperwork, insurance verification, final payment requests, safety compliance, and project timelines.
• Mentor field engineers and help evaluate alternate work methods.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in construction, civil or architectural engineering, or construction management.
• At least two years of related construction experience.
• Working knowledge of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
• Strong organization, communication, teamwork, initiative, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
• Current driver’s license.

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay is $84,100-$113,500, with location-based adjustments available in select markets. The role is eligible for an incentive plan and includes medical, prescription, vision, dental, retirement matching, paid leave, employer-paid insurance, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, and wellness discounts.
