Structural Nuclear Engineer

Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Structural Nuclear Engineer to provide advanced technical analysis, design leadership, and engineering guidance for nuclear projects. The position is based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with hybrid or flexible work options potentially available after the first 90 days.

Project Details

Work supports nuclear power plant projects involving structural steel, reinforced concrete, engineering specifications, scope documents, and nuclear design verification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complex engineering calculations, analyses, designs, and technical deliverables.
• Coordinate work across engineering disciplines and support project budget, schedule, quality, and client requirements.
• Review engineering work, delegate tasks, mentor junior professionals, and provide technical guidance.
• Support design standards, quality programs, business development, and continuous improvement activities.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least five years of related experience.
• Significant steel and reinforced concrete design experience at nuclear power plants.
• Experience with technical or construction specifications, scope of work documents, and nuclear document design verification.
• Experience with Risa-3D, STAAD.Pro, GT STRUDL, or ANSYS is preferred.
• Knowledge of ASME Sections III and XI, AISC 15th Edition, and ACI 318 and 349 is preferred.
• Active engineering registration or licensure supporting engineer-of-record requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual compensation range is $137,916-$230,328. Relocation may be available, and a performance-based bonus may apply.
