Underground Pipe Superintendent - Eastern District

Job Summary

Lead field teams delivering underground pipe and utility work on complex civil, power, and industrial construction projects. This role oversees safe, productive, and quality-focused installation from excavation through testing and turnover.

Project Details

Assignments are on complex power and industrial projects, with work across the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. Project locations may range from major cities to smaller communities, and assignments are determined based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Direct day-to-day underground pipe and utility operations and supervise foremen and craft teams.
• Coordinate excavation, trenching, shoring, dewatering, bedding, pipe placement, backfill, compaction, testing, and restoration.
• Oversee systems such as water, sewer, storm drainage, industrial piping, force mains, and underground structures.
• Use drawings and utility plans to coordinate layout, line and grade, elevations, slopes, tie-ins, and field conflicts.
• Plan upcoming work around schedules, crews, equipment, materials, and site conditions; coordinate deliveries, subcontractors, inspectors, and other trades.
• Monitor production, quantities, labor, equipment use, and progress while identifying ways to improve sequencing and execution.
• Maintain safe excavation and underground work practices, verify quality and testing requirements, and collaborate with project, safety, quality, and survey teams.
• Coach field personnel and address constructability concerns with practical solutions.

Required Experience

• Significant field experience in underground utilities, pipelines, heavy civil, industrial, water/wastewater, or infrastructure construction.
• Superintendent or General Foreman experience leading underground pipe crews is strongly preferred.
• Experience with excavation, trenching, shoring, bedding, pipe installation, backfill, and compaction.
• Ability to read civil drawings, utility profiles, specifications, and construction plans, with working knowledge of line, grade, elevations, slopes, and layout.
• Experience coordinating crews, heavy equipment, materials, and self-perform work.
• OSHA 30 and Competent Person excavation/trenching training preferred or required depending on project responsibilities.
• Ability to travel or relocate to project sites and work overtime or weekends as project needs require.
