Warranty Commissioning Engineer/Manager

Job Summary

Barton Malow is seeking a Warranty Commissioning Engineer/Manager to oversee warranty administration, testing, commissioning, and closeout activities for solar construction projects in Michigan and nearby states. The role combines office coordination with field support and requires strong solar-system knowledge, communication, and troubleshooting skills.

Project Details

The position supports utility-scale and commercial and industrial solar installations, including photovoltaic arrays, inverters, electrical balance-of-system equipment, mounting systems, and potentially energy storage or hybrid solar-plus-storage projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage equipment warranties, documentation, claims, manufacturer coordination, and client communications.
• Plan and oversee commissioning activities, including inverter verification, string testing, grounding checks, thermal imaging, and I-V curve testing.
• Document test results, develop punch-list items, and drive corrective actions through completion.
• Coordinate quality records, performance reports, O&M manuals, as-built documents, client training, and final project walk-throughs.
• Report warranty and commissioning impacts to project leadership and support proposal schedules and resource planning.
• Mentor project teams on commissioning practices and system performance expectations.

Required Experience

• At least five years of solar construction, operations and maintenance, commissioning, or related project engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of PV systems, inverters, electrical balance-of-system equipment, mounting systems, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning workflows.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Experience managing warranty claims or working with equipment manufacturers is preferred.
• Knowledge of energy storage or hybrid solar-plus-storage projects is preferred.
• Project management certification such as PMP or CAPM, or an equivalent credential, is preferred.
• Experience with project controls or construction software such as Autodesk Construction Cloud or Primavera P6 is preferred.
• Valid driver's license, willingness to travel to active sites, and ability to work outdoors are required.
