Assistant Safety Manager

Job Summary

McCarthy Building Companies is seeking an Assistant Safety Manager to support a proactive safety culture and administer safety programs across construction projects in the Central Region. The role works with project teams, employees, trade partners, and subcontractors to maintain safe, compliant jobsites.

Project Details

The position supports large healthcare, commercial, industrial, mission-critical, and similar construction projects throughout the Midwest Central Region.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate safety orientations, documentation, training, and weekly toolbox meetings.
• Perform documented safety and health inspections at least twice monthly and track compliance reporting.
• Work with project supervision to provide required personal protective equipment, safety materials, first-aid supplies, and posted safety information.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near misses, and accidents; document findings and coordinate corrective actions.
• Help control construction hazards and apply company safety policies.
• Maintain and submit safety records, inspections, pre-plans, meeting reports, citations, and related correspondence.

Required Experience

• At least 3 years managing safety activities on large construction projects.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• OSHA 500 and BCSP certifications preferred.
• Experience administering safety orientations, substance abuse programs, incident investigations, and OSHA-related injury and illness reporting.
• Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate with owners, management, trades, and subcontractors.
