Safety Specialist 2

Job Summary

JE Dunn Construction is seeking a Safety Specialist 2 to coordinate and implement field safety programs across routine and increasingly complex construction projects in Kansas City. This mid-level safety role supports site leadership, conducts inspections, performs trend analysis, and helps drive a culture of safety across project teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular walk-through inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
• Identify, document, and recommend abatement of hazardous conditions using internal safety management systems.
• Lead project-specific new hire orientations and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
• Monitor subcontractor safety program implementation and attend project meetings to address safety matters.
• Support and chair the project safety committee.
• Assist in accident investigations, root cause analysis, and recommendations to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinate return-to-work efforts for injured employees and compile injury progress reports.
• Perform trend analysis to identify safety issues and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Provide safety training to new and existing project and safety team personnel.
• Assist safety leadership during insurance audits.

Required Experience

• 2+ years of construction safety experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in a safety or health-related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Proficiency in MS Office and construction safety software and management systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and implement corrective measures.
